The Pilates Reformer classes are specialised machine resistance based exercises developed by Joseph Pilates to create long lean muscle and excellent core musculature. These classes are suitable for beginner to advanced levels. The Reformer targets every muscle to ensure muscle balance and strength. The reformer machine is based on the machines that Joseph Pilates developed himself originally in war camp to prevent the wastage of muscle mass in injured soldiers that were bed ridden and would otherwise have died! The concentration and all round mental and physical benefits of the reformer holds no bounds as history has dictated! Try it and see for yourself!
Pilates matwork is a form of exercise performed largely on a mat using your own body weight. Making it suitable for children and adults of all ages. It is a popular and effective body conditioning method, incorporating both flexibility and strength exercises developed over ninety years ago by Joseph H Pilates. Pilates aims to develop the whole body giving you a longer, leaner, stronger body.
What Does It Do For Me?
Pilates is a no-impact exercise that strengthens and tones muscles, improves posture, provides flexibility and balance to promote long lean muscle mass. Pilates strengthens the core and helps to keep your back strong, healthy and mobile. We like to think of pilates as being the best thing you can do for yourself whatever your age and whatever your lifestyle is. Or as some of our clients say, ‘ it helps keep all my bits working for longer’! The Core Studio trainers will also give you some techniques you can use while you are driving, working, waiting at the checkout or watching TV!!
Can Anyone Do Pilates?
Pilates Matwork is suitable for men and women of all levels of fitness. It is suitable for everybody from dancers and athletes to people with disabilites or injuries. The Core Studio Trainers will assess your needs and advise you as to what Pilates class is suitable for you. Pilates is also suitable as a rehab tool and helps to prevent injury and osteoporosis
How Often Should I Do Pilates?
In the words of Joseph Pilates ‘in 10 sessions you will feel the difference, in 20 you will see the difference and in 30 you will have a brand new body’! Pilates can be performed from once a week to seven days a week. The Pilates Matwork Class in the Core Studio is one hour in duration.
Why Do It?
Modern life means that most of us spend many hours bent over a waist high desk, sitting at a computer or driving a car essentially training our bodies into a rounded posture that cramps the muscles, strains our back and weakens our pelvic floor muscles and inhibits breathing!
This lifestyle is physically and emotionally damaging. The Pilates method can teach you to counteract the damage done and help your re-train your ody to work better by strengthening weak muscles and stretching tight muscles, therefore improving your overall physical fitness and wellbeing. You will feel the benefits of Pilates almost immediately. It’s not a ‘quick fix’ – rather it is a long term investment that will give you core strength and a supple lean physique and, in short, make you feel a whole lot better!
What Are The Principles of Pilates?
Your Core Studio Trainer will be instructing you in the following principles with suitable modifications based on your need for Pilates.
